I’m on the 1st Page of Google, Now what?

Since we rank clients so well there is a popular question we keep hearing. “Now that I am ranking on the 1st page of Google for the majority of my keywords, now what do we do?” Many people think that since they have achieved a position on the 1st page of any major search engine their battle is over for that particular keyword. In reality, once you land at the bottom of the 1st page in your ranking position, your primary battle has just begun.

Why Should I care if I rank at position 9 or position 1 on the 1st page of Google?
To answer this question we will break down for you the percentage of people who click (on average) on each position within the top 10 positions on the 1st page of Google.

Position 1 = 42.30%
Position 2 = 11.92%
Position 3 = 8.44%

Position 4 = 6.03%
Position 5 = 4.86%
Position 6 = 3.99%
Position 7 = 3.37%
Position 8 = 2.98%
Position 9 = 2.83%
Position 10 = 2.97%

The answer and point to be made is, just because you rank on the 1st page of a major search engine does not mean that all positions on the 1st page are equal in traffic numbers. Attaining the 1st position on the 1st page of the search engines is the always to end goal for each keyword. So if you are ranking on position 3 on the first page of a major search engine, we should still choose to press forward until we have reach the number 1 position unless the top positions are locked down by sites that will take too much time and effort to knock down.
